About the position

The Network Engineer at DISH Network is responsible for providing advanced technical leadership in the implementation and maintenance of complex network projects. This role involves collaborating with various teams to gather requirements, design solutions, and ensure the reliability of the DISH enterprise network, focusing on both wired and wireless user access. The position requires hands-on involvement in network operations and performance tuning to maintain high operational uptime.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced technical leadership for complex project work.
  • Supply advanced technical direction and leadership to junior members of the data networking team.
  • Work with various teams to gather requirements, create specifications, and design solutions for network projects.
  • Provide hands-on implementation and ongoing care and maintenance for network projects.
  • Develop implementations in a lab environment to prove out design specifications according to a test and validation plan.
  • Maintain daily operational responsibility for the reliability of the DISH enterprise network with emphasis on user access both wired and wireless.
  • Ensure enterprise network systems and services meet an operational uptime of 99.95%.
  • Conduct advanced enterprise-level performance tuning and network performance audits regularly.
  • Monitor ongoing availability of network services and processes.
  • Validate that customer network configurations are functioning per designs by validating log flows, event threshold settings, and alarm notification settings.

Requirements

  • Practical experience related to WLAN, LAN, VLAN, 802.11 RF standards required.
  • Experience with the amendments for roaming (e.g., 802.11k/r/v) strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with high-availability/redundant wireless controllers like Cisco 9800 or 5508 required.
  • General technical knowledge of Cisco networking platforms and protocols/features including Catalyst, debug, STP, Port Security, Port Authentication, ACL, Rogue Detection/Mitigation required.
  • Experience successfully supporting MacOS Wi-Fi, especially roaming in an enterprise environment is a strong plus.
  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure w/ CMX and/or DNA Center w/ DNA Spaces desirable.
  • Experience with Wi-Fi site survey using Ekahau (or similar) desirable.
  • Experience with Software Defined Networking (SDN), network configuration automation (e.g., using CPI), SD-Access, DNA Center is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Cisco ISE and ACS (for 802.1x Wi-Fi and Wired authentication) is a plus.

  • Experience with amendments for roaming (e.g., 802.11k/r/v) strongly preferred.
