About the position

The Network Engineer position involves managing and optimizing network systems to ensure high performance and reliability. The role includes installing hardware and software, troubleshooting network issues, and collaborating with vendors to implement solutions. The engineer will also be responsible for training staff on wireless technologies and maintaining network security protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Installing necessary hardware or software, including those for backups or to monitor system performance.
  • Troubleshooting tasks to prevent downtime.
  • Providing solutions for upgrade management.
  • Developing plans to address consistent wireless network problems.
  • Planning for future strategies and initiatives to keep the network operating at high performance.
  • Collaborating with vendors and network managers on implementation and deployment.
  • Installing and managing firewalls and other network security protections.
  • Training in-house staff on wireless technologies, if applicable.
  • Putting solutions in place to continuously test network performance.
  • Testing and modifying equipment as needed.
  • Configuring and deploying CISCO switches and access points appropriately and effectively.
  • Conducting site surveys.
  • Responding, resolving, or ensuring wireless and network issues are resolved when assigned by the Service Desk.
  • Writing technical and end-user documentation for assigned projects.
  • Providing all necessary system, maintenance, and disaster recovery plan documents.
  • Performing system installation support and ensuring all necessary system security requirements.
  • Researching and problem resolution and coordinating activities with IT support staff as required and documenting findings.
  • Maintaining software licenses and maintenance support from software vendors.
  • Following division team handbook, policies and procedures, software standards, software development lifecycle and change management.
  • Working collaboratively with others to achieve team and organizational goals; prioritizing projects and/or tasks; providing constructive input to achieve team goals.
  • Delivering a customer-focused, responsive service to customers; supporting efforts to enhance business efficiency and effectiveness; demonstrating a positive, can-do attitude; responding constructively to new information, changing conditions, and unexpected obstacles.
  • Preparing management reports related to system audit, availability and performance as needed.
  • Submitting appropriate change order documentation for moves, adds, and changes of the systems.
  • Performing other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a network engineer role.
  • Hands-on experience in networking, routing, switching, and wireless.
  • Excellent knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of wi-fi network infrastructures.
  • Experience with Cisco wireless LAN controllers, implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
  • Ability to set up and configure network devices such as access points.
  • Great at organizing, prioritizing, and multitasking.
  • Cisco training and certifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • CWNA training and certification a plus.
