About the position

TEKsystems is seeking a Network Engineer for a long-term opportunity that will be hybrid in Chicago, IL or Lansing, MI. The Network Engineer will play a crucial role in the operations of the network, responsible for implementing and maintaining all company connections at a highly available, enterprise level. This position involves a mix of project work and system support, as part of a team dedicated to managing the network infrastructure environment. The engineer will ensure the appropriate configuration, maintenance, and installation of routers, switches, appliances, hardware, software, and tools. A key responsibility will be to maintain the health and security of the route switch environment by keeping the latest patches, updates, and configurations, while utilizing monitoring systems to identify and resolve issues. The role will primarily focus on project work, but will also include day-to-day responsibilities related to cleanup and improvements/optimization of the network. Projects that the Network Engineer will be involved in include a data center build, leveraging new technology with megaports, managing 3rd party provider links, SaaS implementations, and an Azure redesign. This position requires collaboration with department leaders to identify, design, and develop strategic network solutions that comply with technical and security policies. The engineer will also work closely with other networking and technical teams, as well as Information Security, on new initiatives. As a subject matter expert in several network technologies, the Network Engineer will assist in maintaining the network environment, including configuration, IOS updates, and patches. Troubleshooting network issues using industry-standard tools and monitoring will be a significant part of the role. The engineer will also support various network appliances and be involved in Business Continuity testing, providing after-hours on-call assistance on a rotation basis.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain all company connections at a highly available, enterprise level.
  • Manage the network infrastructure environment ensuring appropriate configuration, maintenance, and installation of routers, switches, and appliances.
  • Maintain the health and security of the route switch environment by keeping the latest patches, updates, and configurations.
  • Utilize monitoring systems to identify and resolve network issues.
  • Focus on project work including data center builds, leveraging new technology, and Azure redesigns.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to design and develop strategic network solutions compliant with technical and security policies.
  • Work with other networking and technical teams on new initiatives.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in several network technologies, including analysis and QA.
  • Assist in maintaining the network environment including configuration, IOS updates, and patches.
  • Troubleshoot network issues leveraging industry-standard network tools and monitoring.
  • Support Fiber Channel Infrastructure and various network appliances.
  • Assist in Business Continuity testing.
  • Provide after-hours on-call assistance on a rotation basis.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Internet services, encryption, and network-based protocols.
  • Understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and QoS.
  • Experience with Routing Protocols such as EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, Policy Based Routing, OTV, and VXLAN.
  • VPN Configuration and setup experience (Any Connect and Easy VPN).
  • Familiarity with storage and server virtualization technologies and their dependencies on network infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in coding languages such as Terraform, Python, PowerShell, Yang, etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Cisco IOS, Cisco NXOS, and Cisco ACI.
  • Knowledge of Firewall configuration and implementation (ASA, Firepower, and Checkpoint).
  • Wireless troubleshooting experience with Cisco Wireless Controllers.
  • Experience supporting Fiber Channel Infrastructure (Nexus 5000, 7000, 8000, 9000 series switches).
  • Experience with network appliances such as Citrix NetScaler, F5 BIG-IP, and Cisco ESA.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies that could solve technical problems or enhance user experience.
