About the position

The Network Engineer position is a 6-month contract role based in New York, with the potential for extensions. The selected candidate will be required to work on-site five days a week, although some hybrid flexibility may be offered. This role is critical in supporting various network buildouts, expansions, and decommissioning projects within a large-scale, multi-vendor enterprise environment. The Network Engineer will be responsible for gathering project requirements, discussing the project scope, timeline, and budget, and performing initial assessments to detail project site conditions and infrastructure build requirements. In this role, the Network Engineer will engage in a variety of tasks including building network configuration templates for distribution, wired, and security switches based on the latest approved network engineering designs. They will also create basic connectivity templates for wireless controllers, firewalls, and voice gateways, ensuring compliance with the latest approved security and Unified Communications (UC) engineering designs. Additionally, the engineer will be tasked with upgrading and downgrading IOS codes on network hardware to approved versions, as well as decommissioning network equipment by disconnecting, powering down, removing, and labeling all devices before moving them to storage. Excellent documentation skills are essential, as the engineer will be expected to produce Visio diagrams, flowcharts, block diagrams, and process documentation to support their work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for all network buildouts, expansions, and decommissioning projects.
  • Gather requirements and discuss project scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Perform initial assessments detailing project site conditions, deficiencies, and requirements for infrastructure build.
  • Build network configuration templates for distribution, wired, and security switches based on approved designs.
  • Create basic connectivity templates for wireless controllers, firewalls, and voice gateways based on approved designs.
  • Upgrade and downgrade IOS codes on network hardware to approved versions.
  • Decommission network equipment by disconnecting, powering down, removing, and labeling devices.
  • Move equipment from site to storage.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience as a Network Engineer in a large scale, multi-vendor enterprise environment.
  • Advanced experience with routing protocols such as EIGRP, BGP, and OSPF.
  • Strong Cisco Networking skills including routing, switching, wireless, implementing, and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced knowledge of layer two protocols including LLDP, CDP, ARP, Port Channeling, Trunks, STP, and MPLS.
  • Excellent documentation skills, including proficiency in Visio, flowcharts, block diagrams, and processes.
  • Cisco Certifications in Routing and Switching.
