About the position

The Network Engineer position at Guitar Center is a vital role that focuses on configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting enterprise network systems within campus LAN and WAN environments. This position is ideal for individuals who are not only technically proficient but also possess strong interpersonal skills, as it involves significant communication with both customers and service providers to resolve network-related issues. The Network Engineer will be responsible for recommending configurations and implementing new components into the production network and retail locations, which typically include hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless equipment. In this role, the Network Engineer will conduct initial analyses of network problems and propose effective solutions. They will also provide assistance to other departments and customers on network-related issues as needed. The position requires the ability to work after hours and during periodic holidays to conduct system maintenance, and the engineer will participate in an on-call rotation with the network group. There may also be potential travel to Distribution Centers and other retail store locations for system maintenance, upgrades, and implementations. The Network Engineer will execute project implementations, such as the installation of new switches, routers, and firewalls, and will coordinate with vendors to assist with the technical evaluation of products and services. Additionally, the engineer will help develop methods and procedures for new assignments and will work collaboratively with team members, rotating support shifts as necessary. Building relationships with external vendors and interacting frequently with relevant internal departments will also be a key aspect of this role. Other duties may be assigned as needed, making this a dynamic and engaging position within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise network systems in campus LAN and WAN environments.
  • Recommend configuration and implementation of new components to production network and retail locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or 5 years of relevant work experience can be substituted.
  • 5 years of industry networking experience with a solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing and switching concepts, BGP, OSPF, load balancers, firewalls, and monitoring systems.
  • 2 years of experience supporting end users in a Juniper environment.
  • 2 years of hands-on experience managing Juniper policies changes and firmware upgrades.
  • 2 years of experience with enterprise deployment of firewalls.
  • 2 years of experience with enterprise deployment of managed switches.
  • 2 years of experience working with Juniper Switches, managing firewall filter policies, VLAN creation/segmentation, and OS upgrades.
  • 2 years of experience with design and implementation for enterprise deployment of Juniper switches; experience with Junos Space platform is a plus.
  • 2 years of experience with site connectivity management, such as ISP and cradlepoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Junos Space platform.
  • Certifications in networking (e.g., CCNA, JNCIA).
  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools.
