About the position

The Network Operations Engineer I position at SBA Communications is designed to provide first-line technical support for technicians across various disciplines, including Transport, DAS, Microwave, Data Centers, and ISP. This role focuses on monitoring and managing network operations, ensuring high-quality service delivery, and supporting incident management processes within a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor local switching, networks, systems, and applications, including troubleshooting, tuning, and maintenance.
  • Provide on-call support to the 24x7 Network Operations Center and its technicians.
  • Identify and analyze network events from the Network Management System (NMS).
  • Troubleshoot and evaluate network problems, recommending solutions or escalating to next tier support as necessary.
  • Assist in troubleshooting after escalation to the next tier team.
  • Resolve service issues involving multiple users or those that cannot be resolved by lower-level technicians.
  • Perform configuration audits to ensure compliance with organizational standards.
  • Respond to network incidents and support SLA commitments between Network Operations and customers.
  • Document activities clearly, including customer and technical information.
  • Maintain professional demeanor while providing technical guidance to NOC team members.
  • Support skills development programs for Tier 1 NOC technicians.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Associate's Degree in Engineering or a computer science-related field, or a High School Diploma/GED with 4+ years of experience in DAS operations supporting ISP and IXP.
  • Experience in a centralized repair/troubleshooting/testing environment, including logging events in a ticketing system.
  • Knowledge of switching, routing, and transport technologies related to network services.
  • Understanding of network-related services such as DHCP, DNS, TFTP, FTP, NTP, SSH, SMTP, POP3, and SNMP.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Valid Government Issued Driver's License.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
  • Juniper Networks Certified Professional (JNCIP-DC) certification.
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification.
