About the position

As a Network Operations Engineer at Penumbra, you will play a critical role in determining the company's long-term goals. Your primary focus will be on providing operational and implementation support for various network components including Network, Wireless, firewall, DNS, DHCP, and LAN. You will be responsible for monitoring the network infrastructure, troubleshooting issues, and handling user incidents actively during company business hours. This role requires you to provide medium to high complexity network support activities, which may include occasional off-shift support in case of major outages reported. You will work closely with Network Engineering, Network Security, and Administration to perform maintenance tasks and participate in process improvement initiatives. Your responsibilities will also include executing medium to high complexity network changes and implementations, as well as participating in the network technology design process. Analyzing potential changes and enhancements to network software and hardware will be crucial to determine their impact on the existing production environment. Additionally, you will work as a member of a project team on various business projects, contributing your expertise to ensure successful outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor network infrastructure and troubleshoot user incidents during business hours.
  • Provide medium to high complexity network support activities, including off-shift support during major outages.
  • Collaborate with Network Engineering, Network Security, and Administration for maintenance tasks and process improvements.
  • Perform medium to high complexity network changes and implementations.
  • Participate in the network technology design process.
  • Analyze potential changes and enhancements to network software and hardware to assess their impact on production environments.
  • Contribute as a member of a project team on business projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in operations and managing network devices and firewall infrastructure.
  • 5+ years of experience installing and building network infrastructure.
  • In-depth knowledge of network hardware and software technologies and best practices.
  • Knowledge of Routing and Switching design preferred.
  • R&S and/or DC CCNA certification is required; CCNP preferred.
  • Good knowledge of PAN firewalls architecture, ACLs, policies, NATs, IPSEC VPNs, and Global protect VPNs.
  • Experience with SolarWinds IT infrastructure monitoring and provisioning preferred.
  • LAN switching knowledge including VLAN, VTP, STP, etc. is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of routing protocols such as ISIS, OSPF, and BGP is preferred.
  • Understanding and practical experience with technologies such as Cisco SDA, ISE, and VXLAN is preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of Wireless networks including WLC 9800 and 3500 Access points 9120 is preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of Cisco Catalyst 9000 series, Palo Alto firewalls, Nexus 93k series, and APC UPS is preferred.
  • Test and validation experience (Network hardware or software/OS) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of network technology disciplines such as IP Routing and Switching, Routing Protocols-OSPF, BGP, WAN, IPSEC, PAN Firewall, Packet Analysis, SD Access, DNAC, Cisco ISE, Infrastructure, IT Tools, and other relevant technologies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills in identifying and resolving complex networking issues.
  • Strong understanding of DNS and experience in deploying and managing internal and external DNS environments.
  • Experience in managing different Load Balancer solutions.
  • Experience with cloud networking and cloud connectivity.
  • Scripting/programming skills will be a plus.
  • Proactively acquire an in-depth understanding of the organization and its processes, as well as develop an understanding of incidents and change management principles.
