About the position

The Network Operations Engineer will be part of the Bloomberg Network Operations team, responsible for maintaining, supporting, and developing one of the largest private networks globally. This role ensures 24/7 access to the network for clients, providing both reactive support for networking issues and proactive project work to enhance network design and data delivery. The position requires collaboration with a diverse team and serves as a critical point of contact between Network Operations and various internal departments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support, maintenance, and hands-on troubleshooting of the global network using proprietary and third-party platforms.
  • Adhere to strict deadlines and manage projects, including the installation and decommission of hardware.
  • Resolve connectivity issues to critical customers, financial markets, and stock exchanges.
  • Provide day-to-day support of Bloomberg's market data infrastructure globally.
  • Communicate effectively at different levels and across regions, demonstrating flexibility and composure under pressure.

Requirements

  • Advanced networking certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIP, CCIE, etc.).
  • A networking degree or relevant work experience as a Network Operations Engineer / Network Engineer.
  • Ability to work effectively and take initiative in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to maintain professionalism when handling complex network issues.
  • Practical experience with network protocols (e.g., MPLS, BGP, OSPF, STP, LACP) and hands-on troubleshooting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience applying analytical skills to problem solve issues autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools including Grafana, Splunk & Humio.
  • Experience with programming and scripting (e.g., markdown, YAML, javascript & python).
  • Knowledge of automation tools such as Ansible.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with firewalls (Palo Alto, Checkpoint), load balancers (F5), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Familiarity with white box vendors (Cumulus, Arcos, etc.).
  • Understanding of financial markets and underlying technologies in data, and experience working with stock exchange and market data connectivity.
  • Knowledge of Data Center build and design fundamentals.
  • Understanding of multicast deployments using IGMP/PIM/MVR.
