About the position

Internships at Astranis typically last for twelve weeks and are designed for students currently enrolled at a four-year university. As an Intern, you will have an amazing opportunity to work on hard problems — we pride ourselves on giving everyone at Astranis a chance to do meaningful work on challenging projects, regardless of their seniority. Many past interns have designed and tested hardware/software that is heading to space on our first satellite, and many of them are now full-time employees at Astranis. In this role, you will focus on pre-sales and post-sales network architecture and planning, which fundamentally involves optimizing high throughput satellite networks. This includes understanding and trading dozens of parameters such as digital payload configuration, orbital slot selection, frequency planning, antenna system optimization, user coverage area definition, gateway location selection, user terminal selection, and networking/modem equipment selection and configuration. The position balances technical and business/customer-facing responsibilities, providing high visibility and impact. You will also benefit from 1:1 mentorship from a senior, seasoned sales engineer, enabling rapid learning and growth!

Responsibilities

  • Optimize high throughput satellite networks by understanding and trading various parameters.
  • Engage in digital payload configuration and frequency planning.
  • Select and optimize antenna systems and user coverage areas.
  • Determine gateway locations and user terminal selections.
  • Configure networking and modem equipment.

Requirements

  • Strong ability to optimize systems by juggling many variables and considering all options.
  • Process-oriented mindset, constantly seeking more efficient ways of doing things.
  • Experience with scripting languages, preferably Python.
  • Must be onsite in San Francisco a minimum of 3 days a week.
  • Enjoy a fast-paced environment with a bit of chaos.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knack for math.
  • Ability to craft high-quality presentations and deliver them to potential partners.
  • Willingness to travel a bit (< 10%).
