About the position

In this role, you will participate in the lifecycle management of networks through various build and upgrade projects. Your primary responsibilities will include developing and safely executing network changes using existing procedures and tooling. You will be expected to attend and contribute to related projects and sprint planning sessions, ensuring that all aspects of network management are covered. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing and improving runbooks and methods of procedures to enhance operational efficiency. As part of your duties, you will assist in onboarding new team members, providing them with the necessary training and support to integrate into the team effectively. Regular participation in network solution design reviews will be a key aspect of your role, where you will provide valuable feedback to improve network designs. You will also participate in operational rotations, taking on either primary or secondary positions as needed. Your responsibilities will include providing break-fix support for network events, triaging event tickets, and remediating issues or escalating them as necessary. Supporting root cause analysis will be required to identify and resolve underlying issues effectively. You will leverage existing tooling and automation to complete critical tasks, such as device upgrades, and there is a preference for candidates with experience in scripting and network automation, particularly with Python, Puppet, SQL, and/or Ansible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience supporting large scale network technologies, especially Juniper, Cisco, Arista, firewalls, and switches.
  • Experience with networking protocols such as TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and SSL.
  • Knowledge or practical application of PowerShell scripting.
  • Ability to diagnose network alerts to assess and prioritize faults and respond or escalate accordingly.
  • Linux system background.
  • Experience with Incident Response plans and strategies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Cisco and Juniper certifications are desired.
  • Experience from a large ISP, large cloud provider, or telecommunications company.
