About the position

The Network Security Engineer at Henry Ford Health System is responsible for the implementation and support of the company's multi-site network and security infrastructure. This role involves collaborating with various IT functional areas to ensure compliance with security best practices and regulatory requirements, particularly focusing on PCI and HIPAA compliance. The engineer will manage firewalls, VPNs, and security controls, while also providing consulting and guidance on security initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and support firewalls, wireless technologies, DLP, IPS, and VPN connections.
  • Perform daily tasks including firewall rule creations, switch port configurations, and monitoring log data from network and security devices.
  • Provide tier 2 and 3 technical support and assist with technical leadership on network and security devices and software.
  • Monitor and track scheduled system maintenance activities, analyzing their duration and potential impact to customers.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance and improve security initiatives within the environment.
  • Work with the architecture team to develop solution blueprints and construct test scenarios for implementation.
  • Implement, develop, test, support, and evaluate security-focused tools and services.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Information Privacy and Security Office Services Catalog and Corporate Information Security policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field is desired.
  • Five plus (5+) years of experience with security technologies including Intrusion Detection Systems, Firewall Configuration and Management, and Log Analysis tools.
  • Five to seven (5-7) years of experience in a technical position.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP stack and troubleshooting tools.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, PCI, ISO 27000, and ISO 9000 standards.
  • Strong experience in security engineering, system and network security, and application security.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to convey technical information in non-technical terms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Citrix and other remote access technologies.
  • Experience with leading firewall platforms (e.g., Juniper, Checkpoint, Cisco).
  • Experience with leading Load balancer platforms (Citrix, F5).
  • ITIL v3.0 certification preferred or within six (6) months.
  • Applicable certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, etc.
