About the position

Compass Point is seeking a Network Security Engineer with a passion for their craft and a commitment to creating meaningful value in their work. This position involves engineering, implementing, and monitoring security measures to protect computer systems, networks, and information. The candidate will be responsible for identifying and defining system security requirements, designing system security architecture, and developing detailed security designs. Additionally, the role includes preparing and documenting standard operating procedures and protocols, configuring and troubleshooting security infrastructure devices, and developing technical solutions and new security tools to mitigate vulnerabilities and automate tasks. The Network Security Engineer will ensure that clients are informed about security incidents as quickly as possible and will be required to write comprehensive reports that include assessment-based findings, outcomes, and recommendations for further system security enhancements. The role also supports corporate initiatives, proposals, and business development activities as requested. This position requires an active DoD Secret Clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain up to Top Secret clearance being highly desired. The candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in building and maintaining security systems, along with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Hands-on experience with security systems, network technologies, and monitoring tools is essential, as well as strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are also necessary for effective stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer, implement and monitor security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks and information.
  • Identify and define system security requirements.
  • Design system security architecture and develop detailed security designs.
  • Prepare and document standard operating procedures and protocols.
  • Configure and troubleshoot security infrastructure devices.
  • Develop technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
  • Ensure that the client knows as much as possible, as quickly as possible about security incidents.
  • Write comprehensive reports including assessment-based findings, outcomes and propositions for further system security enhancement.
  • Support corporate initiatives, proposals, and business development activities as requested.

Requirements

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance and ability to obtain and maintain up to Top Secret clearance is highly desired.
  • DEA agency check / public trust is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in building and maintaining security systems.
  • Detailed technical knowledge of database and operating system security.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; advanced degrees desired.
  • Hands-on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc.
  • Experience with network technologies and with system, security, and network monitoring tools.
  • Thorough understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols.
  • Familiarity with web-related technologies and network/web-related protocols.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with experience in people & stakeholder management.
