About the position

VAE, Inc. is seeking a Network Security Engineer to join our team in Fort Meade, MD. This full-time position involves designing, implementing, and documenting network solutions for our clients, primarily within the Department of Defense. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a team of engineers on a variety of projects, ranging from basic installations to complex facility upgrades. As a technical point of contact, the engineer will be responsible for coordinating with customer sites to provide program overviews, document points of contact, and establish access procedures. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying potential facilities for survey and developing effective communication channels with on-site personnel. The Network Security Engineer will review survey reports, including floor plans and power location diagrams, ensuring completeness and compliance. They will provide feedback and coordinate updates with the engineering team, perform technical reviews of site-specific work packages, and develop compliant engineering solutions. The engineer will also be tasked with identifying implementation risks and coordinating the development of solutions to mitigate any impacts. Documentation and tracking of issues through to resolution are critical components of this role. In addition to technical responsibilities, the engineer will communicate site-specific installation requirements and necessary site preparation actions to support engineering designs. Monitoring implementation milestones, updating scheduling and reporting documents, and providing guidance and technical support to site implementation teams are also key aspects of the position. The engineer will conduct final quality reviews, package all relevant documents, and deliver them to program customers. Furthermore, the role includes supporting the development of standardized documents, templates, and processes, while maintaining effective communication with project managers, field engineers, site personnel, government customers, and contractors.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance required.
  • Security+ CE or CISSP (or other operational security certification) required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field.
  • 5-7 years of hands-on experience in network security.
  • Hands-on experience with switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, proxies, and network security appliances.
  • Fundamental knowledge of TCP/IP, OSI model, and related concepts.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based technologies.
  • Solid understanding of IT security standards, best practices, and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of security protocols, processes, architectures, and tools.
  • Familiarity with common network protocols such as SNMP, Syslog, NTP, SMTP, SSL, SSH, DNS, RADIUS.
  • Knowledge of Linux/UNIX Operating Systems.
  • Linux scripting skills (Perl, Python, Bash) desired.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio.
  • Ability to work in a virtual team environment as well as independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a DoD Information Technology environment; DISA experience is a plus.
