Network Security Engineer

About the position

The Network Security Engineer at Milwaukee County is responsible for the implementation, administration, and maintenance of network security hardware and software. This role involves developing procedures, policies, and configuration guidelines for the County's LAN, WLAN, and WAN, ensuring compliance with security audits, and providing technical leadership for network security projects. The engineer will work closely with various departments to secure the network infrastructure and meet business needs.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain the County's firewalls.
• Manage secure access to County's networks.
• Remediate vulnerabilities and penetration scan findings.
• Perform firmware upgrades and patching of network infrastructure devices.
• Manage the County's Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
• Oversee the secure connection infrastructure for the County.
• Advance automation initiatives using Python API, SSO, and GitHub Enterprise.
• Respond to network security incidents.

Requirements

• Current resident of the State of Wisconsin.
• Valid WI driver's license.
• Associate degree in Information Technology or a closely related field.
• At least five (5) years of IT-related experience.
• Advanced knowledge of computer and software applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email, SharePoint).
• Intermediate knowledge of Cisco and Linux Command Line Interface.
• Basic knowledge of compliance standards (HIPAA, PCI, etc.).

Nice-to-haves

• CCNA Security or Palo Alto PCNSA certification preferred.
• Palo Alto PCNSE certification preferred.
• CCNP Security certification preferred.
