Randstad Federal is seeking a Network Security Engineer in support of a federal program at the Department of Commerce. This position is crucial for designing, implementing, and maintaining the nationwide network infrastructure of a U.S. Federal agency that serves over 3000 users. The Lead Network Engineer will be responsible for leading the implementation of ITIL v4 foundation Service Management practices, which involves analyzing current and future network needs in terms of bandwidth, security, scalability, and reliability. The role requires planning and overseeing the installation, configuration, and testing of network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and servers. Additionally, the Lead Network Engineer will troubleshoot and resolve network issues, provide technical support and guidance to network staff and users, and collaborate with other IT professionals, managers, and stakeholders. This position also includes direct supervision of five Junior to Mid-level NOC engineers. Key responsibilities include designing, deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting wide area networks using various network equipment, software, and protocols. The Lead Network Engineer will provide superior customer service to internal and external clients, respond to escalations, and proactively notify customers of network issues while assessing and communicating business impact. The role involves working with third-party partners to provision site-to-site IPSEC VPNs, configuring and utilizing a variety of network management tools, and finding and implementing new technologies that simplify the network environment while improving security and performance. The Lead Network Engineer will monitor the network ticket queue, update and escalate tickets in accordance with Service Level Agreement requirements, and partner with internal and external stakeholders to provide solutions that support national network operations. In terms of network design and implementation, the Lead Network Engineer will ensure network reliability, security, scalability, and performance. They will provide senior-level leadership, oversight, and expertise for managing large nationwide enterprise networks, functioning as a senior technical authority for networks, and leading programs and project teams in accomplishing advanced IT systems software and hardware projects. The role also includes managing the engineering of wired, wireless, and unified communications solutions, monitoring and evaluating network systems for configuration and optimization, and identifying and resolving problems with network systems and technologies. Collaboration and communication are key aspects of this role, as the Lead Network Engineer will advise staff and senior managers on proposed standard technical architectures, provide technical support and guidance, and collaborate with other IT professionals, managers, and stakeholders. Documentation and compliance are also critical, ensuring compliance with IT acquisition management and documenting network configurations, processes, and standards. Additionally, the Lead Network Engineer will provide leadership to all engineers assigned to the Network Operations Center (NOC), promote training courses for network staff, and assist the task order program manager with contract deliverables.
