About the position
The CERT Office of the Chief Engineer is a small team of wireless communications and network security experts focused on advancing the state of the art in security at a national and global scale. The Network Security Research Intern will contribute to a variety of core functions including Software Defined Networking forensics and analysis, tool development and automation, wireless network security, and chaos engineering experimentation of complex systems.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to Software Defined Networking forensics and analysis
- Assist in tool development and automation
- Support wireless network security initiatives
- Engage in chaos engineering experimentation of complex systems
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a degree granting program
- Willingness to travel to various locations to support the SEI's overall mission
- Subject to a background check and must be eligible to work in the United States without Visa sponsorship
- Able to work an internship during the summer
- Able to work onsite at the SEI Pittsburgh office
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with wireless/network protocol frame generation and manipulation
- Experience with security of cyber-physical systems
- Experience with hardware software co-design
- Experience with red-teaming or chaos engineering approaches to improve security of complex systems
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts
- Experience with clearly documenting and communicating findings
