About the position

The Network Support Specialist position at SAIC involves supporting the Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Technology program, known as Vanguard. This mid-level role focuses on maintaining and troubleshooting LAN/WAN networks, ensuring the operational integrity of secure voice and video networks, and providing essential support for Defense Red Switch Network operations. The specialist will work evening shifts and is responsible for a variety of technical tasks, including system equipment installation, maintenance, and documentation of network operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance for directing and monitoring information systems operations.
  • Implement and maintain network systems.
  • Monitor network infrastructures and perform troubleshooting as issues arise.
  • Monitor and respond to complex technical control facility hardware and software problems.
  • Escalate issues as required to Tier III staff and monitor issues through the trouble life cycle.
  • Assist with updating standard operating procedures, network topology documentation, and other documentation.
  • Document activities in Remedy helpdesk and incident management system.
  • Perform IOS and software upgrades on network infrastructures.
  • Ensure mid-shift SLAs are met and identify trouble areas that could negatively impact SLA maintenance.
  • Perform rack-mounting and de-installing communications equipment and associated cabling.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent training.
  • 3 years' experience with voice, data, and LAN/WAN communications systems.
  • Operator/maintenance training or experience on various crypto equipment.
  • Basic electronics or computer repair skills.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Ability to handle moderately complex assignments with little supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN) experience.
  • Experience with Service Now (SNow) ticketing system.
  • Experience with HAIPE operating software called CHIMERA.
  • Technical training in computer science or related field.
  • CCNA certification.
  • Network+ or comparable certification.
  • Experience repairing and terminating fiber optic cables.
  • AutoCAD or Visio experience.
  • Radio/satellite background.
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
  • Familiarity with DoS environment.
