About the position

BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Network / System Engineer II for an opportunity in Richmond, VA. This role is critical in ensuring the best practice implementation and operations of patching and vulnerability management/remediation to ensure that the bank's infrastructure is free from vulnerability threats. The selected resource will be part of a team responsible for performing OS patching and software vulnerability remediation on mission-critical applications that require zero downtime. The resource will collaborate with application teams and engineering partners to build and modify the patching flow instruction documentation. This position requires working with various other teams, including Systems Administration (SA), Middleware (MW), and Database Administrators (DBA), during the patching exercise to resolve any issues that may arise. The role demands excellent knowledge of Linux/UNIX operating systems and experience with patching and vulnerability monitoring/remediation. Additionally, familiarity with change and release management processes is essential. The candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrating a proven track record of taking initiative. The role requires flexibility, as the resource will be expected to work weekend and afternoon shifts. Knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is also necessary, along with experience in TruSight (BladeLogic) and BLCli/NSH automation scripting being advantageous. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong drive for results and success, persisting in the face of significant difficulties and being comfortable presenting and communicating with senior leadership teams (SLT).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure best practice implementation and operations of patching and vulnerability management/remediation.
  • Perform OS patching and software vulnerability remediation on mission-critical applications with zero downtime.
  • Collaborate with application teams and engineering partners to build and modify patching flow instruction documentation.
  • Work with various teams (SA, MW, DBA, etc.) during the patching exercise to resolve issues.
  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership teams regarding patching and vulnerability management.

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of Linux/UNIX operating systems.
  • Experience with patching and vulnerability monitoring/remediation.
  • Familiarity with change and release management processes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a proven track record of taking initiative.
  • Willingness to work weekends and afternoon shifts.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge/experience in TruSight (BladeLogic) is an added benefit.
  • Knowledge/experience in BLCli/NSH automation scripting is a plus.
