About the position

BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Network / System Engineer V for an opportunity in Plano, TX. This position is crucial for leading multiple projects on the Technology Infrastructure team within a complex financial organization. The middleware team is responsible for managing a distributed architecture framework that hosts mission-critical J2EE internet and intranet applications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in technical infrastructure management and engineering, complemented by hands-on experience in the field. The responsibilities of the Network / System Engineer V include designing and building web-based application servers (Weblogic Server/Portal) for applications and services within a UNIX infrastructure. The role requires troubleshooting complex application integration points and coordinating with virtual team members across the enterprise to deliver sophisticated J2EE hosting solutions. The engineer will manage multiple projects concurrently and must be adaptable to change, demonstrating self-motivation, strong leadership, and the ability to influence others creatively. Additionally, the engineer will work closely with application teams to deploy new applications in the Weblogic hosting environment, gathering application configuration needs and facilitating changes with administrators and product vendors to resolve technical configuration or application issues. On-call support and flexible working hours are required, as the engineer will interact daily with customers (application and testing teams) to provide Middleware and Java support. The role also involves serving as a J2EE architect, making recommendations on J2EE best practices in application development, designing Middleware infrastructure for high availability and failover capability, and providing technical consultation to team members. Communication with business partners at an enterprise level and interfacing with internal customers and external vendors throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC) is essential, along with executing production changes for bank integrated and regulatory releases with precision.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build web-based application servers (Weblogic Server/Portal) for applications and services in a UNIX infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot complex application integration points and coordinate with virtual team members across the enterprise to deliver complex J2EE hosting solutions.

  • Gather application configuration needs and facilitate changes with administrators and product vendors to resolve technical configuration or application issues.
  • Provide on-call support and maintain flexible working hours.
  • Work with customers (application teams and/or testing teams) daily to provide Middleware and Java support.
  • Serve as a J2EE architect and make recommendations on J2EE best practices in application development.
  • Design Middleware infrastructure and Middleware topology for high availability and failover capability.
  • Provide technical consultation to other team members and their supported areas.
  • Communicate with business partners at an enterprise level.
  • Interface with internal customers and external vendors for consultation at various points of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Execute production changes for bank integrated and regulatory releases with precision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent field experience with at least 8-10 years supporting Jboss, JBoss Datagrid, Weblogic, Tomcat, IBM HTTP Server, Apache, and similar Middleware products.
  • J2EE experience at the large scale enterprise system level.
  • Extensive scripting experience in Jython, Python, YAML, and Perl.
  • Administration of Middleware using tools such as mDeliver, BladeLogic, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Middleware products using various diagnostic tools.
  • Experience with peripheral systems (network, load balancing/workload management, application development, operating system) and monitoring systems (Splunk, Introscope, Sitescope, etc.).
  • Knowledge of industry security baselines.
  • Ability to create documentation for troubleshooting, performance, optimization, and remediation.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both business and technical management.
  • Familiarity with IT Service Management framework.
