About the position

BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated System Engineer for an opportunity in Newark, DE / Richmond, VA / Jacksonville, FL. The System Engineer will be responsible for performing monitoring for the continuous service improvement team, ensuring that systems are operating efficiently and effectively. This role requires strong expertise and experience with Splunk development (SPL) and the creation of user-accessible custom dashboards. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system and its key monitoring and management capabilities that are accessible to advanced monitoring tools, including Splunk. The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience with monitoring and reporting systems in a large enterprise environment, as well as experience with operational scripting and improvement. Candidates should possess a working knowledge of current programming languages such as Python and Groovy, and demonstrate knowledge of networking fundamentals, databases, and applications and their interdependencies in the context of monitoring. Familiarity with Splunk infrastructure architecture is a plus, as is an understanding of IT operational processes, including ITIL concepts. The System Engineer will also need to have a general understanding of large data sets, as well as knowledge of Perl, Windows Batch, VBScript, or vSphere PowerCli. Understanding of DNS and BIND support, IPSEC VPNs, and NAT is also essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
