About the position

The Network Technician position is responsible for providing technical support and guidance for trunked radio, voice, and data network communications across all County departments. This role involves complex testing and analysis of the Enterprise network, recommending and implementing solutions for network communication issues, and managing antenna systems and microwave equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, program, configure, install, test, and evaluate performance of new network electronics and UPS Systems.
  • Analyze network data and IP voice issues and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Program and operate radio system operating software and microwave systems.
  • Modify existing network equipment for added functions through upgrades and/or reprogramming.
  • Provide guidance to all County departments, Elected Officials, and other municipalities on network procedure, purchasing, and project compliance.
  • Act as a consultant to address technical issues related to network design, installation, and planning.
  • Administer IP address selection and assignments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Three years of experience in the installation, programming, and problem diagnosis of LAN, MAN, WAN networks.
  • Knowledge of firewalls, routers, switches, VPN hardware, radio dispatch consoles, and gateways.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SQL, MicroFocus Cobol, PHP, IBI-WebFocus, Oracle SQL, PeopleTools, Peoplecode, PeopleSoft's Query Tool, SQR, Business Objects, and Crystal Reports.
  • Familiarity with UNIX (AIX), LINUX (Redhat), Microsoft Windows 10 or higher, and Microsoft Server 2008 or higher.
