About the position

The Network Telecommunications Engineer (NTE) is responsible for administering and managing the network environments at Skagit Valley Hospital. This role requires a strong technical leadership skill set, along with extensive knowledge and experience in Cisco Catalyst switches, LAN switching technology, Cisco routers, and multiple routing protocols such as RIP-2, BGP, and EIGRP. The NTE will be involved in planning, configuring, and installing new Cisco LAN equipment, as well as troubleshooting complex LAN, WAN, and Internet environments. Additionally, the NTE will assist in security design, process development, and improvement, and will be actively engaged in new customer implementations. The position demands a proactive approach to troubleshooting in diverse environments, ensuring that all assigned projects are completed on time. This includes providing analysis, design, development, implementation, testing, monitoring, maintenance, production support, and documentation. The NTE must independently identify, troubleshoot, document, and escalate complex problems to the Director. Essential functions of the NTE include administering and managing Cisco hardware and software to support production clients, providing network and telephony design, and configuring and installing routers, switches, voice gateways, and wireless infrastructure during implementations. The NTE will troubleshoot and resolve network and telephony problems using tools such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unified Contact Center Express, and Cisco Unity Connection. The role also involves assisting in the development, improvement, and testing of incident response procedures, extending monitoring tools for network and telephony devices, and managing the Change Control process for all changes related to the TNE role. The NTE will coordinate and oversee maintenance and changes to the telephony and network production environment, develop and update processes and procedures, and work effectively with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and resolve technical issues. Ensuring that products and services meet the overall security objectives of SRH is also a critical aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and manage Cisco hardware/software to support production clients.
  • Provide network and telephony design and configure/install routers/switches/voice gateways/wireless infrastructure during implementations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network and telephony problems using Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unified Contact Center Express, and Cisco Unity Connection.
  • Assist in the development, improvement, and testing of incident response procedures.
  • Provide solution requirements to extend monitoring tools for network and telephony devices under management.
  • Manage and support the Change Control process for all change needs related to the TNE role.
  • Coordinate and oversee the maintenance and changes to the telephony and network production environment.
  • Develop and update processes and procedures.
  • Coordinate documentation efforts.
  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and resolve technical issues.
  • Ensure that products and services meet SRHs overall security objectives.
  • Design, coordinate, and implement telecommunications systems including VOIP, Nortel PBX, and Mitel voice switching systems.
  • Design network cable/wiring plans and related products and services.
  • Assess business requirements, perform design and programming, and escalate tasks and projects as appropriate.
  • Oversee the ongoing administration of voice technology and network systems, including telephone station hardware, software changes, voice system upgrades, and traffic analysis and reporting.
  • Oversee vendor billing and vendor billing changes related to voice technology and maintain documentation of telecommunications circuits.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems or related area preferred.
  • Previous experience as Network Engineer required.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • CCNP or CCNA preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in all aspects of PC and network installation and support in a large user environment.
  • Knowledge of systems management, analysis skills, computer systems, testing and training.
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN systems integration, Novell, NT, TCP/IP, intelligent HUBS, switches, routers and network protocols/topologies.
  • Ability to communicate technically both verbally and in writing and to work positively in a team environment.
