About the position

The Network Threat Detection Engineer at Meta is responsible for researching and developing innovative solutions to protect the company's infrastructure and users. This role involves enhancing network security measures, leading efforts to mitigate security incidents, and mentoring engineering teams on security practices. The position allows for telecommuting and requires a strong foundation in programming, security systems, and network protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop new solutions to help protect our infrastructure and our users.
  • Iterate network security posture to better protect against attacks and detect new vectors using network, security and software engineering skill set.
  • Lead network efforts to mitigate and investigate security incidents.
  • Utilize frameworks to develop and scale detection, mitigation and response automation tooling.
  • Evaluate and test new vendor and home-grown network initiatives for security issues.
  • Mentor and evangelize security practices through cross functional work with engineering teams throughout Meta.
  • Keep Meta safe through active operation and defense of critical network infrastructure.
  • Telecommute from home is permitted.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Analytics, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Sciences, or a related field and completion of one university-level coursework, research project or internship.
  • Completion of one university-level coursework, research project or internship must include experience in programming language (Python, Go, etc.) with the ability to apply that to security tool development, automation, and overall programmatic solutions that will be used to defend infrastructure.
  • Experience in offensive/defensive security or systems engineering.
  • Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, computer networking, routing and switching) and Unix based systems.
  • Experience in researching, building, and implementing defensive security systems that are used against internal and external attack vectors.
  • Experience in designing and building out application and network security monitoring to aid in detection or forensic investigations.
  • Utilizing high performance query engines (Presto or Spark) for big data.
