About the position

The Network Vulnerability Assessor I position at the Nevada National Security Site is a critical role within the MSTS Cyber Security team, focusing on IT support and vulnerability analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting network scanning and vulnerability remediation operations in a complex enterprise environment. This role requires a strong understanding of various vulnerability assessment tools and methodologies, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with other IT professionals and management to ensure the security and compliance of the network infrastructure. In this position, the IT Support I - Vulnerability Analyst will utilize tools such as Tenable Security Center and Nessus to perform vulnerability and compliance scans. The analyst will be tasked with ensuring the accuracy of scan results and will alert senior team members to any issues related to authentication or scan failures. Additionally, the role involves updating software for network devices, including Extreme OS, Cisco IOS, and Brocade Fabric OS, and applying patches as necessary. The analyst will also assist in the review and updating of vulnerability remediation documentation, ensuring that methods and procedures for scanning and patching are current and effective. Collaboration is key in this role, as the analyst will interact with various IT team members and management to execute directives related to vulnerability remediation initiatives. Monitoring dashboards that present actionable vulnerability data will be part of the daily responsibilities, as well as working closely with users to verify the effectiveness of remediation efforts. The analyst will also assist in compiling and analyzing technical data, contributing to FISMA reporting, compliance scanning, and continuous monitoring efforts. Overall, the position emphasizes the importance of maintaining a productive and respectful work environment, providing excellent customer service, and fostering cooperative relationships with colleagues and customers alike.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct vulnerability and compliance scans using various tools including Tenable products like Security Center, Nessus, and other application assessment tools.
  • Ensure scan results are accurate, alerts senior vulnerability team members of authentication and scan failure issues.
  • Update Extreme OS, and Cisco IOS, and Brocade Fabric OS software and applies patches as directed.
  • Assist with the review and updating of vulnerability remediation documentation including methods and procedures for conducting scanning and patching processes.
  • Interact and coordinate with other IT members and management to execute directives and other vulnerability remediation initiatives.
  • Monitor dashboards that present actionable vulnerability data.
  • Collaborate with users to ensure that vulnerability remediation is complete and verify effectiveness of results.
  • Assist in researching, compiling, and analyzing technical data.
  • Assist with data calls, FISMA reporting, compliance scanning and reporting, continuous monitoring and compiling reports for auditors.
  • Contribute to an overall productive and respectful work environment by providing excellent customer service and working in a positive, collegial manner at all times.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of network scanning and vulnerability remediation operations.
  • Experience with vulnerability assessment tools such as Tenable Security Center and Nessus.
  • Ability to update and patch network device software including Extreme OS, Cisco IOS, and Brocade Fabric OS.
  • Strong documentation skills for updating vulnerability remediation processes.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with IT team members and management.
