About the position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University is responsible for providing comprehensive care in an ambulatory setting, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This role involves assessment, diagnosis, management, and documentation of patient care, particularly for acute and complex chronic conditions. The NP will also engage in professional practice behaviors, including mentoring and education of graduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete history and physical examinations and document findings in the medical record.
  • Order and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques and diagnostic procedures.
  • Serve as the first responder for patient status changes and in situations requiring procedural and resuscitative interventions.
  • Assess risks associated with the care of acute and complex chronically ill patients.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to make diagnoses of acute and complex chronic conditions.
  • Manage diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, and supervision.
  • Formulate differential diagnoses and order appropriate interventions.
  • Identify expected outcomes from diagnoses and document a plan of care.
  • Utilize evidence-based practice guidelines in formulating and modifying plans of care.
  • Document key components of patient progress in compliance with standards.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the healthcare team and facilitate continuity of care.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or related field.
  • National Board Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • BLS certification.
