About the position

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic applicants for a full-time research technician position in the laboratory of Dr. Dilek Colak at the Brain and Mind Research Institute, Weill Cornell Medical College. The Research Technician will play a crucial role in assisting with laboratory management responsibilities and performing various technical duties under supervision to support the research activities of the laboratory. The studies conducted in this lab involve a range of techniques including mouse genotyping, mouse behavioral assays, histology, cryostat tissue sectioning, as well as induced pluripotent stem cell culturing and brain organoid generation. The position entails a variety of lab management activities, which include purchasing research materials, ensuring compliance with research protocols, managing mouse colonies, and assisting with any other tasks that may arise to help the Principal Investigator (PI) maintain the lab's operations. Research activities will be conducted under the guidance of the PI or another qualified lab member, and will involve conducting experiments related to mouse colony maintenance, cell culture, and/or immunohistochemistry. The Research Technician will also be responsible for collecting and analyzing data, as well as assisting with the production of manuscripts. Additionally, the technician may be assigned other related duties as necessary to support the lab's research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with laboratory management responsibilities including purchasing research materials and managing mouse colonies.
  • Conduct experiments under supervision, including mouse colony maintenance, cell culture, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Collect and analyze data from experiments.
  • Assist with manuscript production and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, or equivalent 4-year undergraduate degree, preferably in neuroscience, biology, or a related field.
  • Ability to commit to working in the lab for at least two years.
  • Prior lab experience, including pipetting, routine operation of instruments, and cell culturing.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new techniques and work as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with mouse colony maintenance is an asset but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
