About the position

The Project Manager of New Business is responsible for managing various projects related to commercial, industrial, builder/developer, rural extension, and renewable energy sectors. This role focuses on providing exceptional customer experiences while ensuring the company meets its financial and program enrollment goals. The position involves overseeing new business gas distribution and electric transmission projects, ensuring timely completion and effective communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze complex construction drawings, permits, easements, agreements, and other documents for gas and electric projects.
  • Provide technical advice to customers regarding installation processes and expectations.
  • Build relationships with key organizations and external stakeholders.
  • Work within a team environment to achieve common goals.
  • Ensure efficient and timely completion of utility projects, interfacing with internal departments.
  • Manage commit dates to align internal resources with customer site readiness.
  • Communicate company tariff impacts to customers regarding new business.
  • Seek capital authorization for new business investments in compliance with policy.
  • Contract with customers for service as specified by policy.
  • Manage multiple electric and gas projects simultaneously, recognizing job site issues.
  • Assist with restoration efforts during power outages.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in gas and electric distribution and transmission engineering principles.
  • Ability to read/interpret construction prints and apply basic surveying principles.
  • Knowledge of project management processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • High degree of organizational and planning skills.
  • Elevated level of people skills for effective communication and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, organization, time management, analytical and planning skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiate solutions with little supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior New Business project management experience.
  • Proficiency in NiSource's work management systems and customer relationship management solutions.
  • Prior experience with utility operations.
