The position involves joining a cutting-edge team at Western Digital to develop advanced servo firmware for hard disk drives. The role focuses on designing, optimizing, and calibrating servo loops, as well as controlling actuators and spindle motors. The work will significantly impact product performance and efficiency through innovative firmware solutions.

  • Design and implement robust servo loop systems for hard disk drives.
  • Develop comprehensive firmware development plans and maintain strict schedules to ensure timely deliverables.
  • Drive continuous improvements by leading process, team, and program changes.
  • Collaborate on product development projects, focusing on servo loop design, integration, and comprehensive drive-level failure analysis.
  • Work autonomously and in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including ASIC, Mechanical, Channel FW, and CTLR FW groups.
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Systems Engineering with a focus on control system design, expected graduation in 2024.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and design sophisticated algorithms and systems.
  • Practical experience in drive-level debugging using tools like emulators, serial port tracing, digital oscilloscopes, and other failure analysis tools.
  • Proven track record in MATLAB, Simulink, DSP, and real-time operating systems.
  • Experience with ARM or ARC processors.
