About the position

The Editor at Running Press will play a crucial role in acquiring and editing a diverse range of illustrated books and stationery products. This position involves collaborating with authors and creative teams to develop innovative content in various categories, including Lifestyle, Body, Mind & Spirit, and more. The Editor will manage multiple projects, ensuring that each publication aligns with the company's vision and market trends.

Responsibilities

  • Identify trends, topics, and formats for potential book and stationery products.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with authors, literary agents, and artists.
  • Evaluate and develop book proposals and pitches for acquisition.
  • Edit and develop manuscripts, managing projects through all publishing stages.
  • Partner with authors to realize their visions from acquisition to publication.
  • Collaborate with design, production, and freelancers throughout the process.
  • Serve as a public voice for projects during acquisition and sales presentations.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions for new product ideas.
  • Act as project editor on titles acquired by Publisher and Senior Editor.
  • Advocate for authors' views and represent the publishing house diplomatically.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of editorial experience in book, magazine, or digital publishing.
  • Experience with complex, four-color illustrated books is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of the acquisition process.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple projects.
  • Comfortable with all aspects of the creative process, including brainstorming and editorial development.
  • Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with authors and agents.
  • Proficient in Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel, with a strong understanding of line editing and style guides.

  • Experience in illustrated book publishing is considered a plus.
