About the position

The StaRN Residency Program at Rapides Regional Medical Center is a year-long initiative designed to facilitate the transition from student nurse to registered nurse. This program emphasizes hands-on experience, allowing participants to develop essential clinical and critical thinking skills in a supportive environment. As a Resident I Graduate Nurse, you will be part of a community that includes nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents, all dedicated to fostering learning, clinical application, and socialization. The program includes advanced clinical training in a specialty area, monthly educational sessions, preceptorship training with a facility preceptor, and hands-on simulations to measure and evaluate skills. Mentoring from experienced nurse leaders and collaboration on evidence-based practice projects are also integral components of the residency. In this role, you will coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with departmental requirements and nursing standards. You will work closely with medical providers and other care team members to provide individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care. Your responsibilities will include assessing patient conditions, performing medical procedures, documenting care in patient medical records, administering medications, and monitoring patient responses. You will also be expected to educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, and medications, ensuring that complex medical terminology is translated for complete understanding. Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s).
  • Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Perform the administration of prescribed medications and monitor patient for therapeutic response.
  • Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and strive to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • Teach patients, families, and caregivers about patient medical condition, treatment plan, medications, and possible side effects.
  • Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State.
  • No previous experience needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Other Certifications may be required during employment.
  • Some travel may be needed for training.
