About the position

The New Grad RN position in General Surgery at The George Washington University Hospital is designed for recent nursing graduates seeking to begin their careers in a supportive and dynamic environment. This full-time role involves providing patient-focused nursing care in a 39-bed unit dedicated to pre/post-operative care for various surgical procedures. The position includes participation in a comprehensive Nurse Residency Program that combines clinical practice with educational components to facilitate a smooth transition into professional nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient-focused nursing care to patients with various surgical needs.
  • Manage pre/post-operative care for patients undergoing general surgical procedures.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
  • Participate in the Nurse Residency Program, including lectures, e-learning, and hands-on skills labs.
  • Engage in evidence-based projects and monthly classes for continued professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or enrollment in a BSN program with completion within 5 years.
  • Current RN License or eligibility for DC RN License.
  • CPR Certification from AHA or ARC required.
  • Laboratory experience preferred.
  • Acute care experience of at least 1 year is preferred but not mandatory.
