About the position

The Transition to Practice Nurse Residency Program at Central Maine Healthcare is a comprehensive 12-month initiative designed to support recent nursing graduates in their transition to professional nursing roles. This program emphasizes professional growth, skill acquisition, and direct patient care in an acute care setting, fostering a culture of learning and support. Nurse residents will receive mentorship, participate in professional development sessions, and engage in evidence-based projects to enhance their clinical skills and confidence as they embark on their nursing careers.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and indirect patient care in the acute care setting using time management skills to care for patients.
  • Obtains nursing history, performs nursing assessment and develops plan of care for patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served.
  • Consults other health team members/departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
  • Completes competency-based orientation.
  • Educating and advocating for our patients, ensuring they understand health issues and available resources, while promoting the best possible outcomes.

Requirements

  • Recent graduate from an accredited ADN or BSN program with less than 1-year experience.
  • Active nurse licensure or eligible to obtain Maine State licensure.
  • Active BLS certification.

  • Ability to engage patients and team members utilizing the CMH Experience Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and triage in a highly fluid dynamic operational environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with all layers of the management/ administration team.
