About the position

The New Grad RN PICU position at HCA Healthcare is designed for recent nursing graduates who are looking to transition into a professional nursing role within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. This position is part of the HCA Nurse Residency Program, which is a year-long initiative aimed at providing new nurses with the necessary tools and support to develop their clinical and critical thinking skills in a real-world hospital environment. The program begins on September 9th, 2024, and offers a structured series of learning experiences that include advanced clinical training, monthly educational sessions, and preceptorship training with experienced nurse leaders. As a New Grad RN Resident, you will be part of a supportive community that promotes learning and collaboration. You will coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, working closely with medical providers and other members of the healthcare team. The role involves assessing patient conditions, performing medical procedures, administering medications, and educating patients and their families about treatment plans and medical conditions. This position is crucial in ensuring that patients receive compassionate and individualized care, adhering to established nursing models and standards of practice. The RN Resident will also engage in hands-on simulations to evaluate their skills and will have the opportunity to work on evidence-based practice projects, further enhancing their professional development. This role is ideal for those who are passionate about nursing and eager to make a positive impact in the lives of critically ill children and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Perform the administration of prescribed medications. Monitor patient for therapeutic response. Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication.
  • Perform exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strive to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • Teach patients, families and caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State
  • No previous experience needed
