About the position

The New Grad RN position at Overland Park Regional Medical Center is designed for recent nursing graduates who are eager to begin their careers in a supportive and dynamic healthcare environment. This role is part of the HCA Healthcare Nurse Residency Program, which is a year-long initiative aimed at easing the transition from student to professional nurse. The program provides comprehensive training, mentorship, and hands-on experience in various clinical settings, ensuring that new nurses develop the necessary skills and confidence to provide high-quality patient care. As a New Grad RN, you will be responsible for coordinating and delivering patient-centered care in accordance with the standards of practice for your specialty. You will work closely with medical providers and other healthcare team members to assess patient conditions, perform necessary procedures, and administer medications. The role emphasizes the importance of patient advocacy, ensuring that patients and their families receive the information and support they need throughout their healthcare journey. The position offers a customizable approach to training, including preceptorship and mentorship programs, as well as opportunities for professional development through educational sessions and hands-on simulations. The HCA Nurse Residency Program is designed to foster a supportive community among new nurses, experienced educators, and fellow residents, promoting both clinical application and socialization. Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers, documenting care in the patient medical record in a timely manner.
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patients for therapeutic responses, intervening as necessary in case of unintended responses.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests, anticipating needs and resolving them proactively.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up measures, ensuring understanding of complex medical terminology.

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing to be completed before the start date; candidates may accept a position prior to graduation.
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the State; orientation and training may begin prior to passing the NCLEX.
  • No previous nursing experience is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting during nursing school.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
