About the position

The New Graduate Nurse position at Overland Park Regional Medical Center is designed for recent nursing graduates seeking to transition into professional nursing roles. This full-time role is part of the HCA Healthcare Nurse Residency Program, which provides comprehensive training and support to help new nurses develop essential clinical skills and confidence in a hospital environment. The program includes mentorship, preceptorship, and hands-on experience, ensuring that new nurses are well-prepared to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers, documenting care in the patient medical record in a timely manner.
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patients for therapeutic responses, intervening as necessary for unintended responses.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests, anticipating needs and resolving them proactively.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up measures.

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing to be completed before the start date.
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the State, with the ability to start orientation prior to passing the NCLEX.
  • No previous nursing experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting during nursing education.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
