About the position

The New Graduate Nurse position at Overland Park Regional Medical Center is designed for recent nursing graduates who are eager to begin their careers in a supportive and dynamic healthcare environment. This role is part of the HCA Healthcare Nurse Residency Program, which is a comprehensive year-long program aimed at easing the transition from student nurse to registered nurse. The program includes hands-on experience, mentorship, and a structured series of learning experiences that focus on developing clinical and critical thinking skills. As a New Graduate Nurse, you will be surrounded by a community of nurse educators and experienced nurses who will guide you through your initial professional journey. In this role, you will coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the specific requirements of your department. You will work collaboratively with medical providers and other members of the care team to provide individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care. The position requires you to assess patient conditions, perform medical procedures, administer medications, and educate patients and their families about treatment plans and medical conditions. You will also be responsible for documenting care in the patient medical record and advocating for patients and their families to ensure an unparalleled patient experience. The New Graduate Nurse position offers a customizable approach to training, including preceptorship and mentorship programs, as well as a residency that focuses on career progression. The program is designed to provide you with the tools necessary to succeed in today's hospital environment, including advanced clinical training, monthly educational sessions, and hands-on simulations to measure and evaluate your skills. Cohort start dates are available throughout the year, allowing for flexibility in your transition into the nursing profession.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Perform the administration of prescribed medications. Monitor patient for therapeutic response. Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication.
  • Perform exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strive to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • Teach patients, families and caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures.

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing to be completed before start date.
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State. You may start orientation and training in your RN Resident position prior to passing the NCLEX.
  • No previous experience needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Other Certifications may be required during employment.
  • Some travel may be needed for training, remaining local to the Kansas City metro area.
