About the position

The New Graduate RN position in the GI Surgery & Surgical Oncology Acute Care unit at UNC Medical Center offers a unique opportunity for recent nursing graduates to begin their careers in a supportive and dynamic environment. This role involves providing competent clinical nursing care, participating in a yearlong residency program, and working with a diverse patient population requiring complex post-operative care. Responsibilities

  • Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self and patients.
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes and seeks guidance in revising care plans.
  • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems.
  • Develops goals for professional growth and participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
  • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care.
  • Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
  • Reads relevant journals and brings ideas to the staff for assessment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the first day of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • No prior experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting during nursing school.
  • Familiarity with patient education materials and assessment techniques.
