About the position

The New Product Development Electrician at Komatsu is responsible for the assembly, wiring, and testing of innovative mobile equipment. This role involves interpreting engineering schematics, troubleshooting electrical issues, and providing feedback to enhance product design and functionality. The electrician will ensure that new products meet high-quality standards and contribute to the development of prototypes and testing procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and wire new machinery according to detailed engineering schematics.
  • Prepare wiring, check component power, and perform pre-work risk assessments.
  • Read and interpret designs/blueprints, sketches, schematics, and written instructions.
  • Position or align electrical components and wiring for assembly.
  • Make recommendations for design changes to improve manufacturability and serviceability.
  • Inspect, operate, and test completed products to verify functionality and conformance.
  • Support the development of prototype assembly test procedures and participate in product trials.

Requirements

  • Licensed Electrician Journeyperson preferred or equivalent technical certification in electrical/electronics fields.
  • Minimum of five (5) years related experience with mobile transportation or equipment.
  • Minimum of two (2) years electrical assembly and wiring or rebuild exposure preferred.
  • Knowledge of mobile electrical systems and interactions with hydraulic and powertrain systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical designs/blueprints and schematics.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment for testing preferred.
  • Good report writing ability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • High level of initiative with the ability to work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • A degree in electrical engineering with practical assembly skills and experience would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work underground if required.
