About the position

The New Product Development Manufacturing Engineer at Medtronic plays a crucial role in supporting the commercialization of life-saving surgical devices. This position combines technical engineering skills with analytical capabilities to establish new product capacity models, design equipment layouts, and estimate costs, all aimed at enhancing product launch strategies. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to ensure efficient manufacturing processes and contribute to the company's mission of alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and communicate solutions to a variety of routine problems using computer and logic-based methods.
  • Create flexible capacity models and sensitivity analysis to evaluate the end-to-end value stream of a product line and/or product family in support of launch strategy and ramp plan development.
  • Conduct financial analysis, including developing standard costs and startup expenses for learning curve estimates, and completing Make vs. Buy analysis.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Industrial Engineering concepts with a significant focus on analysis, primarily financial and capacity-related.
  • Engage in frequent verbal and written communications; present to peers, development team, and management.
  • Act as a key liaison between Plant Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Operations, New Product Development, and Commercial teams.
  • Identify business process improvement projects related to New Product Introduction & Commercialization.
  • Collaborate with Tooling and Manufacturing Engineers to develop flexible manufacturing cell designs aligned with Lean Manufacturing concepts and the Medtronic Cell Operating System (COS).
  • Complete time studies and line balances; generate line layouts; lead ergonomic/safety assessments; study manufacturing processes through simulation modeling.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering or other technical field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 0 years of experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Skilled with Microsoft suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Industrial Engineering background, including capacity planning/modeling, time & motion studies, balance tables, flexible work-cell development, financial analysis, and standard cost development.
  • Experience with VBA, SQL, and/or Power BI data visualization software is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of financial analysis.
  • General understanding of Six Sigma tools and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
