About the position

The Publicist/Senior Publicist at Grand Central Publishing is responsible for creating and implementing publicity campaigns for non-fiction titles, particularly focusing on the Balance list. This role involves managing media relations, author tours, and events, while collaborating with various teams to ensure successful book launches. The position requires a blend of creativity, strategic thinking, and strong communication skills to effectively promote a diverse range of titles.

Responsibilities

  • Publicizing approximately 14 - 18 books per year for titles on the Balance and Grand Central lists.
  • Executing all aspects of a publicity campaign, including booking national and local media, managing author tours, and producing events.
  • Handling book launches for practical non-fiction published by GCP Balance, including health & wellness, food, psychology, and work/life topics.
  • Developing and maintaining close working relationships with members of the press across various media outlets.
  • Working closely with authors on publicity aspects, including briefing for interviews and accompanying them to engagements.
  • Collaborating with editorial and marketing teams on book launches.
  • Strategizing media lists and creating press materials such as press releases and pitch letters.
  • Collaborating with key in-house departments including Publicity, Marketing, Sales, and Subsidiary Rights.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with booksellers and event venues.
  • Planning and executing author appearances and details for pre-sell events and tours.

Requirements

  • 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of publicity experience in professional public relations or book publishing
  • Strong knowledge of national and regional media
  • Interest in and passion for practical non-fiction
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the media, marketplace and competition
  • Ability to escort authors as needed, including the ability to travel domestically with authors when needed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, etc.
