About the position

WKRC is seeking an aggressive, energetic, and creative part-time News Assignment Editor! This role is crucial for the effective operation of our news team, and we are looking for an experienced assignment editor who knows how to make contacts, generate story ideas, and react decisively to breaking news. The ideal candidate will possess strong logistical skills and the ability to move crews strategically to cover news events as they unfold. This position requires someone with excellent communication skills who can coordinate coverage and problem-solve unforeseen obstacles. The ability to perform calmly and communicate effectively under pressure is essential for success in this role. Candidates should be familiar with the Greater Cincinnati area, as local knowledge will enhance their ability to generate relevant story ideas and respond to community needs. While some local news experience or college-level journalism classes are preferred, we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates a willingness and desire to learn. The News Assignment Editor will be responsible for assigning and tracking news crews, identifying and developing daily content, and writing and posting content to the station's website and social media platforms. Compelling and accurate writing is a must, as is the ability to listen to scanners, react to breaking news, and monitor web sites and social media for developing stories. In addition to these responsibilities, the News Assignment Editor will develop and maintain contacts and sources to enterprise story ideas, listen for and respond to breaking news, and assist in the efficient operations of the assignment desk. This role is vital in ensuring that our news coverage is timely, relevant, and engaging for our audience.
