About the position

The News Operations Manager at WZTV, FOX 17 is responsible for leading a team of Ignite Directors, Photographers, Production Assistants, Multimedia Journalists (MMJs), and Editors. This role focuses on managing, evaluating, and developing the news operations staff to ensure high-quality storytelling through video and sound. The manager will oversee daily news gathering, recruit and train staff, maintain equipment, and support the news process with technical expertise while collaborating on news strategy for daily newscasts and special projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of Ignite Directors, Photographers, Production Assistants, MMJs, and Editors.
• Provide constructive feedback on shooting and editing to staff.
• Train staff on ENG truck and Live U operation.
• Assist the News Director with hiring and scheduling of staff.
• Maintain the Avid system and oversee equipment and vehicle maintenance.
• Oversee director training on the Ross Overdrive system.
• Support video transfer operations in the newsroom.

Requirements

• At least three (3) years of television news photography and non-linear editing experience.
• Professional, organized, and highly motivated.
• Technical knowledge of SAT vehicles, LIVE U, and AVID editing is required.
• Ability to work collaboratively with reporters, editors, directors, and MMJs, as well as independently meet news deadlines.
• Knowledge of video transfer systems is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Curiosity about finding and using emerging technologies for shooting and editing.
• Previous experience as a News Operations or Chief Photographer manager.
