About the position

As a Video Editor at FOX Television Stations, you will play a crucial role in shaping the narrative flow of our news projects. Your primary responsibility will be to edit video sequences for air under tight deadlines using advanced editing software. You will collaborate with colleagues to conceptualize and plan long-term news projects, ensuring that each piece is compelling and engaging from pre-production through to completion. Your expertise in high-end post-production editing will be essential, as you will perform tasks such as color grading, adding special effects, and audio mixing to enhance the storytelling of long-form news projects. In addition to editing, you will be responsible for maintaining a high level of expertise in editing software, staying updated with the latest releases and features. You will also utilize software to restore and archive video for long-term storage, ensuring that all materials are preserved for future use. Updating scripts to reflect the running times of video sequences and coordinating with producers and writers about any discrepancies between written scripts and edited stories will be part of your daily tasks. You will prepare file video for field use as needed and assist the Editing Coordinator by managing feeds, restoring archived video, and ensuring that all elements in a rundown are ready before deadlines. This position requires a blend of creativity, technical skill, and organizational ability, as you will be working in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are critical. Your contributions will directly impact the quality of news content that reaches our viewers, making your role vital to the success of FOX Television Stations.

Responsibilities

  • Edit video sequences for air under deadline using editing software
  • Work with colleagues to plan and conceptualize the narrative flow of long-term news projects from pre-production to completion
  • Perform high-end post-production editing work, including color grading, special effects and audio mixing
  • Edit raw material and utilize music, sound effects and graphics to enhance storytelling in long-form news projects
  • Maintain high level of expertise in editing software and stay up to date with new releases
  • Use software to restore and archive video in long-term storage
  • Update scripts to indicate running times of video sequences and times for graphics to be added over video sequences during live newscasts and special news coverage
  • Inform producers and writers about any discrepancies between written scripts and edited stories
  • Prepare file video for use in the field as needed
  • Assist Editing Coordinator by taking in feeds, restoring archive video, and making sure all elements in a rundown are online before deadline

Requirements

  • Demonstrated skills in video editing under daily deadline pressure
  • Expertise with post-production editing software for creating motion graphics and special effects
  • Familiarity with social media and clipping elements for use on those platforms
  • Organizational skills (including strong digital organization)
  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university preferred
  • Four years of experience at a commercial television station as a news video editor preferred
