About the position

CUMULUS MEDIA Albuquerque is seeking a dynamic Program Director for the legendary News Radio KKOB, which has recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. This position is not just about maintaining a legacy; it’s about leading the station into its next milestone with innovative programming and engaging content. The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking leader who can inspire both the on-air talent and the audience, encouraging active participation in discussions on current topics. The role also includes programming for KNML The Sports Animal, the leading sports radio station in Albuquerque, further expanding the influence and reach of Cumulus Media in the region. As Program Director, you will be responsible for ensuring that the station maintains a high-quality on-air sound while also being organized and efficient in your approach. You will work closely with voiceover talent to create compelling station imaging and promotions, and you will need to be adept at multitasking while focusing on the most impactful use of your time. Strong leadership skills are essential, as you will be coaching and guiding the air staff and collaborating with various departments to achieve the station's goals. The role requires a creative and strategic mindset, as you will be expected to produce engaging radio shows that resonate with listeners. Daily engagement with the audience through social media, phone interactions, and live events is crucial. You will also participate in programming, promotions, and sales meetings, ensuring that all elements of the station's operations are executed flawlessly. This position is a blend of creativity, management, and technical skills, making it a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional in the radio industry.

Responsibilities

  • Successful programming experience and winning track record backed by Nielsen Audio results
  • Savvy computer skills and proficiency with ratings, research, and music (Stratus) programs
  • Make station appearances at events/remotes and represent stations
  • Create systems to accomplish an excellent on-air sound, limiting audio mistakes
  • Work with station voiceover talent to create and produce station imaging and promos
  • Ability to multi-task and focus on the highest and best use of time
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with air staff and associated departments
  • Strong leadership, coaching, prioritization, and execution
  • Creative and strategic problem solver
  • Proficient in digital audio editing and production using various software packages
  • Work with station promotions director to maximize digital assets including websites and social media presence
  • Schedule full/part-time talent & special programming effectively
  • Produce a compelling radio show using creativity and independent professional judgment
  • Engage with listeners via phones, social media, video, web, and on-site
  • Daily social media engagement; website and digital content generation
  • Participate in station Programming, Promotions, and Sales meetings and events
  • Create killer endorsement ads for mutually agreed upon products
  • Handle emergency news/weather in show; on call for weather disasters/breaking news
  • Ensure logged commercials, promotions, sweepers, and other programming elements are aired
  • Perform additional duties in small stations, such as production, assisting program directors or music directors, operating radio transmitter or writing advertising copy.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of News Talk Programming with successful ratings history required
  • Strong production skills and knowledge of Op X, VOX Pro/Adobe Audition and Audacity
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and social networking
  • Strong knowledge of all FCC rules and regulations
  • Socially informed and perceptive; up-to-date with local and national trends
  • Demonstrated upbeat personality, informative, entertaining and engaging on air
  • Pleasant, charismatic and well-controlled voice; excellent pronunciation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and editing skills; proficient in grammar
  • Demonstrated creativity and imagination
  • Ability to work well in a team environment; collaborative
