About the position

KSBW-TV/ccABC/Estrella, part of Hearst Television, is seeking a self-motivated News Video Editor/Photographer who is passionate about storytelling and has the ability to capture the essence of events in the field. This role requires a dynamic individual who can bring vivid stories into the homes of viewers through high-quality video editing and photography. The successful candidate will spend a significant portion of their day editing for newscasts and another portion shooting video in the field, ensuring that they can execute live shots for various stories. The ideal candidate will be tech-savvy, familiar with modern broadcasting tools, and able to shoot on equipment such as Sony XD Cam and GoPro, as well as edit using Adobe Premiere. They will also need to coordinate feeds and manage content elements for multiple shows, demonstrating excellent time management and organizational skills. In this role, the News Video Editor/Photographer will work closely with the Assignment Desk and reporters to cover daily stories, gathering video and still images for digital platforms. They will collaborate with producers to ensure that the creative vision is executed with vivid video and natural sound. The ability to communicate effectively and coordinate incoming video elements from crews in the field is essential. The candidate must also be able to operate large vehicles, have a valid driver's license, and maintain a near-perfect driving record. A strong understanding of digital editing tools and the ability to work under pressure while making quick decisions are critical for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Shooting video and editing of VOs, VO-SOTs, and packages for Broadcast Air and Online postings.
  • Working with the Assignment Desk and Reporters to cover daily stories.
  • Gathering video and still pictures for digital platforms.
  • Collaborating with reporters and producers to ensure the best content and facts are gathered.
  • Working with producers to ensure their creative vision is executed with vivid video and natural sound.
  • Communicating and coordinating incoming video elements from crews in the field.
  • Operating catalog systems to record and locate necessary video.
  • Producing and publishing content to online platforms.

Requirements

  • Must have computer and software experience.
  • Previous newsroom experience preferred.
  • Related military experience will be considered.
  • Ability to carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Efficient operation on ENG trucks.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a near-perfect driving record.
  • Exceptional ability to operate digital editing tools.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative without waiting for direction.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions.
  • Bilingual is a plus.
