About the position

The News Video Editor at WTMJ-Milwaukee is responsible for integrating visual content and audio material to create compelling stories for multiple platforms. This role involves capturing visual content, editing long-form stories and daily newscasts, and ensuring high-quality production consistent with the station's brand. The editor will work closely with producers, multi-media journalists, and photojournalists, and will react to breaking news promptly.

Responsibilities

• Capture visual content and edit long-form stories and daily newscasts as needed.
• Work with producers, multi-media journalists, and photojournalists to ensure a high-quality product consistent with the station's brand.
• Operate various news gathering equipment, including video cameras and video editing equipment.
• Maintain video archive filing system.
• React to breaking news on an immediate basis.
• Gather story-related materials (sound and video) on a timely basis.
• Coordinate remote and studio events, creating synergy between remote and studio productions.
• Collaborate with affiliates on breaking news stories, sharing information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent years of experience preferred.
• Generally, 2+ years of experience in a related field preferred.
• Proficiency in non-linear editing software.
• Knowledge of and proficiency in posting content to the television station website.
• Knowledge and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics, and libel laws.
