About the position

The Concord Bridge is seeking a talented Newspaper Production Manager to oversee the design and layout of our weekly print newspaper. This part-time hybrid position allows for flexibility in scheduling, enabling the successful candidate to choose their own hours while primarily working remotely. The role requires a keen eye for design, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments to produce visually appealing pages and advertisements. The ideal candidate will be adept at using InDesign and will have experience in publication design and production, particularly in the context of newspaper layout. This position is crucial for ensuring that our newspaper meets its Tuesday 6 PM (Eastern time) deadline, and the candidate must be prepared to redesign pages quickly in response to breaking news. The role also involves working closely with reporters to create visual statistics and support graphics, ensuring that the final product is not only aesthetically pleasing but also informative and engaging.

Responsibilities

• Design and layout pages for the weekly print newspaper.
• Create advertisements for local businesses.
• Collaborate with multiple departments to ensure cohesive design and layout.
• Redesign pages on short notice due to breaking news.
• Manage pre-press workflow to ensure high print quality.
• Work with printers to achieve the best print results.

Requirements

• Expertise in InDesign for layout and design tasks.
• Proficiency with Google Drive for document management and collaboration.
• Experience in publication design and production, particularly for newspapers.
• Ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities across departments.
• Strong attention to detail and a proven eye for great design.
• Skills in designing front pages, sports, and lifestyle pages.
• Experience in creating visual statistics and support graphics with reporters.
• Understanding of pre-press workflow management.
• Experience with Excel for data management.
• Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat for document handling.
