About the position
The Laborer position at Navy Exchange involves performing a variety of manual tasks to support daily operations, including loading and unloading vehicles, moving supplies, and maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of work areas. This role requires physical strength and the ability to work under supervision, with responsibilities that may vary based on operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Loads and unloads vehicles such as vans and trucks.
- Moves supplies and materials to an assigned location by handcart or pallet jack; stacks materials for storage.
- Moves heavy boxes/cartons mostly by hand, hand truck, dolly or pallet jack.
- Stacks, wraps and unwraps and stores merchandise and fixtures.
- Moves, assembles, and arranges office furniture and store fixtures, relocating items as assigned.
- Performs daily shopping cart collecting functions and minor maintenance of carts.
- Monitors cart collecting equipment and handicapped carts for proper functioning.
- Performs minor maintenance and repair functions such as changing light bulbs and minor painting.
- Uses hand and light power tools for maintenance tasks.
- May perform minor vehicle maintenance functions, such as adding fluids and checking tire pressure.
- Performs storm preparation duties and assists in after storm clean-up.
- Assists with minor ground maintenance including weed abatement and mowing.
- Maintains areas in a clean and orderly manner.
- Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor and performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Six months experience performing manual labor tasks such as loading and unloading trucks and moving supplies.
- Ability to lift and carry weights up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Experience in using hand tools and light power tools.
