About the position

Akkodis is seeking an Electrical Engineer II for a contract position located in West Syracuse, NY. This role is primarily responsible for the engineering design, implementation, integration, and troubleshooting support for telecommunications and data network systems that involve electric transmission, distribution, sub-transmission, metering, and other grid technologies. The successful candidate will engage in evaluating emerging technologies, participating in equipment specification and selection, and performing end-to-end solution design, which includes validation and testing of advanced communications systems. In this position, you will collaborate closely with various engineering departments, including Substation Engineering, Protection Engineering, Distribution Control & Instrumentation Engineering, and Meter Engineering. Your primary focus will be to provide effective communications solutions for the projects assigned to these groups. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing long-term strategies for telecom networks that support substations, distribution system controls, meters, and other fixed and mobile devices. The role requires expertise in several communications technologies, including RF Data Communication Systems (point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and mesh topologies), Private and Public LTE networks, Fiber Optic and Microwave Transport Systems, leased wired and wireless services, Computer Network Routing/Switching, Cloud Services, and AMI Field Networks. This position offers a competitive hourly rate ranging from $55 to $65, which may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering design, implementation, integration, and troubleshooting support for telecommunications and data network systems.
  • Evaluating emerging technologies related to electric transmission and distribution.
  • Participating in equipment specification and selection.
  • Performing end-to-end solution design including validation and testing of advanced communications systems.
  • Collaborating with Substation Engineering, Protection Engineering, Distribution Control & Instrumentation Engineering, and Meter Engineering to provide communications solutions.
  • Developing long-term strategies for telecom networks supporting substations, distribution system controls, meters, and other devices.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in engineering design and implementation of telecommunications and data network systems.
  • Expertise in RF Data Communication Systems including point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and mesh topologies.
  • Knowledge of Private and Public LTE networks.
  • Experience with Fiber Optic and Microwave Transport Systems.
  • Familiarity with leased wired and wireless services.
  • Proficient in Computer Network Routing/Switching and Cloud Services.
  • Experience with AMI Field Networks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with advanced communications systems validation and testing.
  • Familiarity with grid technologies and electric transmission systems.
