About the position

The Night Operations Desk Manager at West Virginia University is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment in the university's residence halls. This role involves managing access control, providing customer service, and responding to emergencies while overseeing a team of student workers. The manager will coordinate night operations, enforce policies, and maintain communication with university officials and police, all while supporting a large resident population.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for security issues in the Residential Halls, maintaining daily contact with University Police and other departments.
  • Carry out residence hall procedures related to security, including checking IDs, verifying guest registrations, and conducting perimeter checks.
  • Enforce residence hall policies and community standards, acting as the lead in confronting policy violations and submitting detailed reports.
  • Interact regularly with live-in staff and assist with administrative tasks during breaks.
  • Log vending machine problems and report them to the day shift staff.
  • Assist with New Student Orientation and other publications for Night Staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; clerical/computer training preferred.
  • Ability to speak and write in English; knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic math functions.
  • Ability to make sound, independent judgments and work autonomously, especially during emergencies.
  • Basic office skills including filing, typing, and telephone skills; familiarity with Microsoft Word preferred.
  • Ability to supervise and train student workers; confrontational skills and excellent judgment under stress.
